Dolphins Signed New HC Brian Flores To Fully Guaranteed Five-Year Contract

Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins signed new HC Brian Flores to a fully guaranteed five-year contract.

This is notable considering that none of the other seven teams who hired a head coach this offseason gave out a fully guaranteed contract, according to Schefter. Instead, most of the other head coach contracts wound up being four-year deals with a fifth-year team option.

Clearly, Miami is all-in on Flores for the next five years and plan to give him and GM Chris Grier time to get the roster built as they would like in the coming years.

There has been a lot of talk about the Dolphins bottoming out this year and then targeting a top quarterback prospect in 2020.

Flores, 37, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots back in 2004 as a scouting assistant. He has spent his entire career with New England and held a number of positions including Pro scout, special teams assistant, assistant offense/special teams, defensive assistant, safeties coach and linebackers coach.

The Patriots declined to promote Flores to defensive coordinator after losing Matt Patricia last year, but he served as the team’s de facto coordinator this season.

  1. Congrats to Brian Flores on his new HC job. But! Flores won’t last the entire 5 year deal. BELIEVE IT! The ‘Phins will probably get a complimentary win from the Pats next year, just like former Belichick personnel now HCs Matt Patricia and Mike Vrabel got this season. Flores won’t have Obi Bill Kenobi to fall back on every week.
The process of tanking will take place next season for a 2020 prized QB of the future. If the ‘Phins land a QB of the future in ’20 as they will try to accomplish. How long do you think it will be before the ‘Phins will want an offensive minded HC to groom the new QB. That’s the reason McVay, Gase and Kingsbury got their HC jobs replacing defensive minded HCs.
The ‘Phins also need to get a remedy for The Dan Marino Syndrome already. There will never be another Dan The Man, so move on from the past. That’s the reason the Jets never really moved forward. The Jets have suffered from Joe Namath Syndrome for almost 50 YEARS. Until last year’s NFL Draft got them a franchise QB in Sam Darnold.
