Dolphins Waive CB Chimdi Chekwa & DT Chris Jones

The Miami Dolphins officially placed CB Chimdi Chekwa and DT Chris Jones on waivers Monday.

Kyed mentions that the Patriots could actually use some defensive tackle depth, so this could be something to keep an eye on in the coming days.

Jones, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Texans back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in Houston before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Patriots.

New England cut Jones loose in the days leading up to this year’s NFL draft and he was once again claimed off of waivers, this time by the Dolphins. Unfortunately, Miami cut him loose as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players but they later elected to bring him.

In 2016, Jones has appeared in seven games and recorded six tackles and no sacks for the Dolphins.

Chekwa, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Raiders back in 2011. He re-signed with the Raiders back in May of last year but was not tendered a contract as a restricted free agent this past offseason.

Chekwa briefly joined the Patriots for a few more before later returning to the Raiders following this year’s NFL Draft. Oakland wound up releasing him a few weeks into the 2015 season.

The Dolphins signed Chekwa to a contract this past February but he was unfortunately among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason. Miami brought him back close to a month ago.

In 2016, Chekwa appeared in three games for the Dolphins and recorded three tackles.
