Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that the Dolphins have placed veteran DL Jason Jones on waivers Friday.
- Ian Rapoport reports that Jones wasn’t going to be active this weekend, so the Dolphins granted his release, which gives him a shot at joining a playoff team.
- Rapoport adds that if the Dolphins had waited until tomorrow to cut Jones, he couldn’t have been on waivers.
Jones has been a disappointment for the Dolphins, but it’s still a little surprising to see them cut him loose right before the playoff game.
It’s worth mentioning that Jones served a two-game suspension for violating NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy earlier in the year.
Jones, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Titans back in 2008. He spent four years in Tennessee before playing for the Seahawks and Lions.
The Dolphins signed him to a one-year, $885,000 contract with Dolphins back in May.
In 2016, Jones appeared in 14 games for the Dolphins and recorded 36 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defense.
