Dolphins Waive/Injured CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Sign CB Al Louis-Jean

The Miami Dolphins announced the signing CB Al Louis-Jean and that they’ve placed CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu on waivers with the injury designation.

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Ekpre-Olomu unfortunately tore his other ACL in practice when his cleat got caught in the indoor turf.

Should Ekpre-Olomu clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the team’s injured reserve list.

As for Louis-Jean, he was clearly on the Dolphins’ radar, considering they brought him in for a workout last week.

Ekpre-Olomu, 22, was taken in the seventh round of last year’s draft by the Browns. He is in the second year of his four-year, $2,337,300 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season.

Ekpre-Olomu was a star at Oregon before he sustained a torn ACL and a dislocated knee, which led to him spending his entire rookie season on the non-football injury list.

While his career has been significantly impacted by his knee injury, Ekpre-Olomu reportedly took out a $3 million insurance policy during his senior year in case of injury.

The Browns waived him in April and he was claimed by the Dolphins a day later.

During his four-year career at Oregon, Ekpre-Olomu recorded 244 tackles, 6.5 sacks, nine interceptions, and eight forced fumbles.

Louis-Jean, 22, signed on with the Bears an an undrafted free agent out of Boston College last year. He was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but he later signed to the team’s practice squad and wound up appearing in a number of games last season.

The Bears elected to re-sign Louis-Jean to a two-year contract back in February of last year, but he was unfortunately among their roster cuts at the start of the season.

The Redskins signed him to a future/reserve contract in January, only to waive him shortly after this year’s draft.

In 2014, Louis-Jean recorded nine tackles and a pass defense over the course of nine games for the Bears.
