Dolphins Waiving CB Bene Benwikere

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that the Dolphins are placing CB Bene Benwikere on waivers Tuesday.

It’s worth mentioning that the Jets and Redskins previously placed waiver claims for Benwikere, but lost to the Dolphins, considering that Miami has the higher waiver priority.

Benwikere, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.419 million contract and set to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season.

The Panthers elected to cut him loose last month and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins.

In 2016, Benwikere has appeared in four games for the Panthers and recorded 10 tackles, one interception and four pass defenses for the Panthers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 87 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
