Dolphins Will Allow Lamar Miller To Test Open Market

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins will allow free agent RB Lamar Miller to test the open market in the coming days.

According to Salguero, Miami has been in contact with Miller’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, regarding a new contract. However, talks between the two sides have reportedly haven’t been encouraging enough to expect a deal to be done before the market opens on Wednesday.

The Dolphins have, however, expressed interest in bringing Miller back, but it appears as though both sides feel like it’s best for him to see what’s out there.

Dianna Marie Russini reports that Miller was hoping to sign a similar contract to the one DeMarco Murray got from the Eagles last year. However, sources have told Russini that Miller’s market is currently in the $4-$5 million per year range, and not the $8 million Murray got.

Miller, 24, played out the final year of his four-year, $2.58 million rookie contract that included a $486,000 signing bonus and is now in position to be one of the best available running backs in this year’s free agent class.

In 2015, Miller appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and ran for 872 yards on 194 carries (4.5 YPC) to go along with 47 receptions for 397 yards receiving and 10 total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 running back out of 68 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
