Dolphins Cut WR Chad Johnson

Armando Salguero tweets that the decision to release came from head coach Joe Philbin.

Pro Football Talk adds that sources mentioned that Johnson was on a “one-strike arrangement” with the Dolphins and they didn’t want to deal with him being a distraction.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that the Miami Dolphins have released WR Chad Johnson following his recent arrest for domestic abuse.

The Dolphins included no guaranteed money in Johnson’s deal, which made this much easier from their end.

This was certainly a possibility, considering the limited market for his services. Johnson will be hard pressed to find another job now that he’s coming off of a terrible season in New England and a failed experiment in Miami.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Johnson remains in police custody and will be forced to see a judge before being released.

Davie Police Department’s Captain Dale Engle tells Izzy Gould of the Sun Sentinel that WR Chad Johnson was “arrested Saturday night for domestic violence.”

During an argument, “Johnson allegedly head-butted his new wife,” while they were inside of a vehicle. Evelyn Lozada was apparently found with “lacerations on her forehead” when police arrived to the scene.

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post reports that the argument “started over a receipt for a box of condoms.

This is obviously a bizarre event, but if any disciplinary action is taken by the league the Dolphins will have to look for another solution at wide receiver while Johnson is absent. I can only imagine how Hard Knocks is going to handle this.
