Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie A Candidate For The Eagles Franchise Tag?

Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes that soon-to-be free agent CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie likely to command big money on the open market and believes there’s a chance the Eagles could use their franchise tag on him.

The franchise tag would run the Eagles close to $10.7 million, but could buy them some extra time negotiate a long-term deal that would most likely reduce that figure in the first season.

There hasn’t been a lot of talk about Rodgers-Cromartie returning to Philadelphia, but it’s at least a possibility.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 26, grades out as being above average in terms of coverage, but was rated as the No. 98 corner by Pro Football Focus last season. A lot of this comes from his inability to be effective at stopping the run and his tendency to draw flags. He tallied 3 interceptions last year after he finished the 2011 season with zero.

Berman mentions that Aqib Talib and Sean Smith could be potential targets in free agency if they end up looking for a cornerback.

We have him listed as the No. 44 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
