Donald Trump Has Been Contacted About Purchasing The Bills

Donald Trump recently told WBEN radio in Buffalo, N.Y that he has been contacted about potentially purchasing the Buffalo Bills.

“People have actually talked to me about the Bills,” Trump said, via ESPN.com. “I mean, the group of people called me — would I be interested in investing, and I’ll take a look at it. I mean, I look at a lot of things. I’ll take a look at it.

Bills founder and long-time owner Ralph Wilson passed away last week, and the team is expected to be sold to a new owner at some point.

Trump mentioned that he would the Bills to stay in Buffalo, despite speculation that the team could be moved at some point in the next decade.

“I know so many people in Buffalo and they have asked me about look at that and I certainly would look at it but I would … if it were me I’d keep the team in Buffalo,” he said. “I think it’s something that is really vital to the area. … It would be catastrophic, in my opinion, if Buffalo lost the Buffalo Bills.”

The Bills have a ten-year lease that runs through 2022, but the agreement includes a one-time exception following the seventh year (2019) that would reduce the relocation penalty from $400 million to $28.4 million.

This could present a new owner with an opportunity to move the team before the lease is up.

A new stadium for the Bills could go a long way towards keeping them in Buffalo in the long-run, but finding a new owner figures to be popular topic in the coming months.
