Doug Martin’s Days In Tampa Bay Likely Numbered?

According to Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Bay Tribune, it appears as though RB Doug Martin‘s days with the Buccaneers are numbered.

Kaufman mentioned this after Martin did not practice on Wednesday, and even though he participated in Thursday’s session, it’s becoming clear the new Bucs regime isn’t all that high on him moving forward.

Martin was among the most popular names reportedly available at this year’s trade deadline and he’s in the midst of another disappointing season. On top of that the Buccaneers used a third-round pick on Charles Sims just a few months ago, so they clearly have high hopes for him in the coming years.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last week that “multiple people around the league” believe Tampa Bay is still open to listening to trade offers for Martin after this season.

Martin, 25, still has two years remaining on his four-year, $6,787,528 rookie contract with reasonable base salaries of $1,007,048 (2014) and $1,315,572 (2015) coming his way.

This year, Martin has appeared in just five games and ran for 166 yards on 58 carries (2.9 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 54 yards receiving and one total touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 48 running back out of 62 qualifying players.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing plenty more about Martin being available for trade in the coming months.
