Drew Brees Is “Very Optimistic” That He & Saints Will Reach An Agreement

Saints QB Drew Brees said that he’s “very optimistic” about getting a long-term contract in place with team.

“This is definitely where things heat up,” Brees said, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune . “There’s no doubt in my mind we’ll get a deal done. But just like everything it’s a process. It takes time. It’s not something that happens overnight.”

The question really isn’t whether or not a deal will get done, but how long it’s going to take for the sides to figure something out. Each passing day makes more and more likely that players like G Carl Nicks or WR Marques Colston could be playing elsewhere next season. The Saints don’t want to use their franchise tag on him but it could end up being their only option.
