Drew Brees Says He Expects To Be Back With Saints

Following Sunday’s disappointing loss to the Vikings, veteran QB Drew Brees indicated that he intends to be back in New Orleans next year.

Brees is in line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months, but he told reporters “I do” when asked if he thought he was going to return to New Orleans.

Brees admitted that the loss to the Vikings is going to hurt, but he also thinks it can galvanize the team moving forward.

“I mean, I’m more toward the end of my career than the beginning, I know that,” Brees said, via ESPN. “That’s all I divulge [about how long I plan on playing]. But the season ends, and this one will sting, but I think you look back at the things we accomplished and some of the memories that were made and the relationships that were built and the way this team came together. It really leaves me excited for the future of Saints football.

“I’m hoping I’m a part of a few more that I feel that way about and we can make a run at it,” Brees said. “Unfortunately, sometimes experience is a tough teacher, and things happen, and you can go one of two ways with it. Does it put you in the tank? Does it pull you apart? Or does it unite you and make you stronger and mold you and strengthen you? That’s the outlook I’m taking, and I think that’s the outlook that our entire team is taking.

Brees, 39, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2001. After five years with the Chargers, Brees signed on with the Saints as a free agent in 2006.

He’s spent the past 11 seasons in New Orleans and has played out the final year of his two-year, $44.25 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $13 million this season. Brees will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2017, Brees has appeared in 16 games and throw for 4,334 yards while completing 72 percent of his passes to go along with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
