Dwayne Bowe’s 2015 Base Salary No Longer Guaranteed Following Suspension

Chiefs WR  Dwayne Bowe has officially been suspended for the first game of the 2014 season, but the ramifications from this ban could extend beyond this season.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Bowe’s $10.75 million base salary for the 2015 season is no longer guaranteed following his one-game suspension.

Joel Corry of CBS Sports mentions that “it’s now a little easier” for Chiefs to part ways Bowe next year.

Bowe, 29, is entering the second year of his five-year, $56 million contract that includes $26 million guaranteed.

However, his production has dipped in back-to-back years and he’s now dealing with a potential concerning finger injury that has led to a number of drops in training camp.

It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibilities that the Chiefs could move on from Bowe next year if he continues to under perform on the field while his salary continues to increase. Of course, the Chiefs don’t have a lot of depth at receiver, so they would need to have a decent replacement plan in place in order cut Bowe.

Last year, Bowe appeared in 15 games and caught 57 passes for 673 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has Bowe rated as the No. 48 receiver in the league last year.
