Dwight Freeney Would Love To Be Back With Cardinals, But Open To Other Options

Free agent DE/OLB Dwight Freeney mentioned Thursday during an appearance on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” that he wants to play in 2016

Freeney said that he would love to be back with the Cardinals, but admitted that he’d be willing to play anywhere right now.

But if it doesn’t work out here, it could be anywhere,” Freeney said, via AzCardinals.com. “It just depends. It has to be a winning team. I’m used to winning.”

Freeney admitted that he liked waiting until closer to the start of the season to sign with a new team. However, it also gave him some anxiety to deal with in the time being.

“I know my body loved [signing late], but the anxiety mentally wasn’t good,” Freeney said. “So hopefully I can get signed before then.

Freeney, 36, is a former first-round pick of the Colts back in 2002. After spending 11 years in Indianapolis, Freeney signed on with the Chargers as a free agent.

Last year, the Cardinals signed him to a one-year contract and were rewarded with a productive year from the veteran pass rusher.

In 2015, Freeney recorded nine tackles, eight sacks and three forced fumbles over the course of 11 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 51 edge rusher out of qualifying 110 players.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
