Eagles Activate G Evan Mathis, Place G Todd Herremans On I.R.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Wednesday that they have activated G Evan Mathis and placed G Todd Herremans on the season-ending injured reserve list.

Reports from Tuesday indicated that this move was going to be announced in the coming days, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Mathis was placed injured reserve with the designation to return after he suffered an MCL injury at the start of the regular season.

Mathis, 33, is in third year of his five-year, $25 million contract that includes $7 million guaranteed and will make a base salary of $5 million for the 2014 season.

Last year, he appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 1 guard in the league by a wide margin.

Herremans, 32, tried to play through his torn biceps injury last weekend, but it was clear that he wasn’t going to be a very effective player.

He’s in the third year of his five-year, $27.1 million contract that includes $11 million guaranteed. He will make base salaries of $4 million for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
