Eagles Looking For A 3rd Rd Pick For CB Asante Samuel

ESPN’s John Clayton mentioned that the Eagles are hoping to “get a 3rd-round pick” in return for CB Asante Samuel. Clayton does admit that  this could end being “one of those 2nd-day, 3rd-day draft-day trades.”

Clayton’s point is well taken, as the Samuel’s value could increase based on how things play out in the upcoming draft. As of now, NFL teams are balking at their asking price.

Update:

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean reports that the Titan are “still not in the mix” to trade for Eagles CB Asante Samuel.

Wyatt mentions that Samuel’s 2012 salary is a pretty serious concern, as is the Eagles current asking price. This figures to be the same concern that a number of NFL team’s will have.

Jeff McLane at the Philadelphia Inquirer sees things heating up in regards to Samuel as we get closer to the draft.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirms the previous reports that the Eagles are currently shopping CB Asante Samuelaround the league.”

Samuel was in attendance for the start of voluntary workouts earlier in the week and even mentioned that he would like to stay in Phildelphia, but the team appears to be set on trying to move him. Samuel is set to make $10 million for the upcoming season, which will most likely end up being a sticking point for any trade, but he has shown a willingness to renegotiate his contract should something get finalized.

The Lions were a potential option in months past and could still use a decent cornerback, but they’ve shown little interest in the idea recently. Tennessee could also be a team to watch, but ultimately, the Eagles will have to come down on their asking price.
