Eagles Ask DE Vinny Curry To Restructure His Contract, Could Be Released If No Deal

Derrick Gunn, citing a league source, reports that the Eagles have asked DE Vinny Curry to restructure his contract.

If Curry declines to rework his contract, Gunn says that it could lead to the Eagles releasing him.

There was some talk that the Eagles were likely to explore the trade market for Curry after they agreed to the Michael Bennett deal last week.

However, it sounds like there may not be a deal to be made right now, even though there’s a lack of quality pass-rushers available in free agency and the draft.

Curry, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. He signed a five-year, $47.25 million contract that included $23 million guaranteed with the Eagles back in 2016 and was set to make base salaries of $9 million and $9.25 million over the next two years of the agreement.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing would Curry free up $5 million of available cap space while creating $6 million in dead money.

In 2017, Curry appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and recorded 42 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 edge rusher out of 109 qualifying players.
