Eagles Could Begin Contract Talks With C Jason Kelce Soon

Reuben Frank of CSN Philly reports that although the Eagles and Jason Kelce have yet to open discussions regarding a contract extension, a league source has informed him that the two parties are expected to do at some point in the near future.

  • According to Frank, it would be surprising if the Kelce and the Eagles do not have a long-term multi-year deal in place by the start of training camp.
  • Frank believes Kelce is in line for a multi-year contract worth $4.5 – $5 million annually.

Assuming that this in fact an accurate projection for Kelce’s next contract, he would be among the top-7 or 8 centers in the league.

Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman seemed to suggest earlier in the week that keeping Kelce long-term was something they would consider this offseason.

“The kind of guy that you’d like to have in Philadelphia for a long time,” Roseman called Kelce.

The Eagles spent a sixth-round pick on him back in 2011 out of the University of Cincinnati. His 2013 season was by far his best year in the NFL, despite a dealing with a coaching change. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 center in league this season and was especially good at run-blocking.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing more regarding Kelce and a potential contract extension in the coming months.
