Eagles Could Get Out DeSean Jackson’s Contract After 2013

Dan Graziano of ESPN.com breaks down DeSean Jackson‘s recent five-year contract worth $47 million and points out that the Eagles have given themselves a way out of the deal following the 2013 season.

According to Graziano’s source, Jackson will get a $10 million signing bonus, along with a $750,000 base salary for the upcoming season. After that, he’ll make $6.75 million in base salary in 2013 , but only $4 million of that figure is fully guaranteed. In 2014, Jackson will make a staggering $10.25 million, but (this is the interesting part) only $250,000 of that will be fully guaranteed and a another $250,000 is guaranteed against injury.

The final two years include no guarantees which means that the Eagles could cut him lose after the 2013 season without taking anymore than a $500,000 hit. Jackson would really have to turn things around for them to consider paying him over $10 million three year’s from now. That’s not to say that he’ll no longer be with the team by then, but they could look to renegotiate at that point, rather than paying him a huge salary.
