Eagles DC Jim Schwartz Name To Watch For Giants’ HC Job?

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz keeps coming up in connection to the Giants’ head coach position.

Florio points out that while new Giants GM Dave Gettleman and Schwartz have never worked together, consultant Ernie Accorsi has ties to both men. According to Florio, it’s believed that Accorsi leans heavily on advice from Patriots HC Bill Belichick, who may have recommended the pairing of Gettleman and Schwartz.

The Giants had been linked Patriots VP of player personnel Nick Caserio along with OC Josh McDaniels, but Florio mentions that some regard Belichick’s recommendation of Schwartz as an effort to keep both men in place for another year.

It’s worth mentioning that this is just a theory Florio has heard from speaking with people around the league.

During his introductory press conference on Friday, Gettleman stressed experience when discussing the team’s next head coach, which happens to be something Schwartz has.

Schwartz, 51, spent eight years as the Titans’ defensive coordinator before he was hired as the Lions’ head coach in 2009. Hep spent five years as the Lions’ head coach before he was fired after the 2013 season.

Schwartz spent a year with the Bills and eventually joined the Eagles as their defensive coordinator in 2016.

During his five years with the Lions, Schwartz led them to a record of 29-51 (36.3 percent) including one playoff appearance.

We’ll have more regarding the Giants’ head-coaching search as the news is available.
