Eagles Discussing Extension With DT Beau Allen, Could Let DT Bennie Logan Depart?

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles are in extension discussions with impending free agent NT Beau Allen.

According to McLane, this could be an indication that the Eagles are prepared to allow DT Bennie Logan to depart in free agency.

With the Eagles only having around $10 million in available cap space, it certainly seems like Philadelphia will be unable to afford Logan’s services. Given their lack of cap, signing Allen to an affordable extension makes sense for the team at this point.

Back in January, Mark Eckel of NJ.com reported that the Redskins are expected to target Logan in free agency, so he should have options if he does, in fact, reach the open market.

Allen, 25, is a former seventh-round pick by the Eagles in the 2014 NFL Draft. He is entering the final year of a four-year rookie contract worth $2,282,248 and is set to make a base salary of $690,000 in 2017.

In 2016, Allen appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and recorded 29 total tackles, 0.5 sack, and one fumble recovery.

Logan, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.032 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $745,500 before testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2016, Logan has appeared in 13 games and recorded 24 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 86 interior defensive lineman out of 127 qualifying players.
