Eagles & Dolphins Discussed Potential Trade Involving Dion Jordan & Evan Mathis

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins and Eagles were were nearing an agreement on a trade that would have sent DE/OLB Dion Jordan to Philadelphia.

However, the news that Jordan has been suspended for the entire 2015 season following diluted drug test sample put an end to the trade talks.

Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the deal being discussed by the two parties would have sent a conditional late-round pick to the Dolphins for Jordan.

Interestingly enough, McLane adds that the Eagles also discussed possibly trading veteran G Evan Mathis to Miami.

Both Mathis and Jordan have reportedly been on the trading block for some time now, and the Eagles and Dolphins appeared to match up with one another, so this news should not come as a complete surprise.

While trade talks are over for Jordan, there’s at least a chance that a deal for Mathis could come together at some point.

Mathis, 33, still has another two years remaining on his five-year, $25 million contract that included $7 million guaranteed. He stands to make another $5.5 million in 2015 and another $6 million in 2016.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Maths would free up $4.5 million in available cap space while creating $2 million in dead money.

Last year, Mathis appeared in nine games for the Eagles after he dealt with an MCL injury. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 guard out of 78 qualifying players
