Albert Breer of NFL Media reports that the Eagles have picked up DT Fletcher Cox‘s fifth-year option on Monday.

This move will cost the Eagles $7.799 million for the 2016 season. However, this figure is guaranteed for injury only and wouldn’t prevent them from working out a long-term deal that would come with a lower cap figure.

Cox, 24, has one year remaining on his four-year, $10.241 million rookie contract, which included a $5.88 million signing bonus. He stands to make a base salary of $1,786,527 for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Cox appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and recorded 62 tackles, four sacks, three fumble recoveries with one being returned for a touchdown and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 defensive end in a 3-4 defense out of 47 qualifying players.
