Eagles Expected To Make A “Big Push” To Sign CB Byron Maxwell In Free Agency

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Eagles are expected to make a “big push” to sign Seahawks free agent CB Byron Maxwell in the coming weeks.

Maxwell is without a doubt of the best available cornerbacks in this year’s free agent class and a number of reports have connected him to Philadelphia.

  • A previous report from Tony Pauline mentioned that the Eagles are considered to be the “front runners” to land Maxwell.
  • Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports also reported that there has been “a lot of talk” that the Falcons will be “strong players” for Maxwell this offseason.

Some have said that Maxwell could secure a contract that will pay him around $10 million or so per year, which would likely force the Seahawks to move on, even though they’ve said that they would like to retain him.

Maxwell, 26, has played out his four-year, $2,153,452 rookie contract and will now be an unrestricted free agent next week.

In 2014, Maxwell recorded 39 tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and 12 pass defenses over the course of 13 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 45 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.

We have Maxwell listed as the No. 15 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
