Eagles Fear RB Ryan Mathews’ Knee Injury Could “Linger”

Eagles HC Doug Pederson said RB Ryan Mathews knee injury that he sustained during Week 11 is “pretty significant” and that, “there is concern that it could linger,” via Zach Berman of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

  • Pederson mentioned that the team will know more about Mathews’ injury by next Wednesday.

Reports surfaced last week claiming that Mathews suffered a sprained MCL and that he will continue to be evaluated, so it appears that further complications could be surrounding his knee.

A sprained MCL can end up costing a player a few weeks, but it would be great news if his knee injury has nothing to do with his ACL or other ligaments.

Mathews, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2010. He’s currently in the second year of his three-year, $11 million contract that included $5 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $3 million in 2016 and another $4 million next year.

In 2016, Mathews had appeared in 10 games and rushed for 427 yards on 102 carries (4.2 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 94 yards receiving and eight total touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Mathews’ injury as the news is available.
