Eagles Fire Juan Castillo

Andy Reid‘s bye week evaluation has begun and it started on the defensive side of the ball as the Eagles fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo this morning, per Reuben Frank.

During Monday’s press conference, Reid said he would evaluate everything over the bye. The assumption was that the evaluation process would likely be done with the offense, most notably Michael Vick, who has greatly struggled so far this season with turnovers.

Castillo, a converted offensive line coach, has come under criticism for his mismanagement of the defense since the start of the season. The Eagles defense ranked 13th in points against per game and 12th in yards allowed, but they have struggled to get to the quarterback as they have only totalled seven sacks so far this season, which ranks them at 30th in the league. What likely cost Castillo his job was the 10-point lead the Eagles defense blew late in the 4th quarter, which eventually lead to an overtime loss to the Lions Sunday.

Former Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles will replace Castillo as the team’s defensive coordinator.
