Eagles OC Pat Shurmur Could Be Among Top Coaching Candidates Next Year?

 

Pat Kirwan of CBS Sports takes a look at 10 coordinator around the NFL who could be head coaching candidates next season in a recent column.

At the top of Kirwan’s list sits Eagles’ offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur who will have two years of experience working as Chip Kelly’s offensive coordinator after the 2014 season concludes.

Kirwan mentions that, if the Eagles’ offense “explodes” this season, NFL owners could look to recreate Kelly’s offensive success, which leaves Shurmur in an ideal position to secure another head coaching job.

The Dolphins hired Eagles’ QBs coach Bill Lazor to run their offense after spending just one year working with Kelly, so it’s not all that crazy to suggest Shurmur could also benefit from another impressive season with the Eagles.

Shurmur, 49, was hired by Mike Holmgren back in 2011, but he lasted just two years with the team before the Browns cleaned house. Under Shurmur, the Browns won just 9 of 32 games (28.1 percent).

Other coordinators could draw interest, according to Kirwan include: Ray Horton (Titans), Darrell Bevell (Seahawks), Hue Jackson (Bengals), Sean McDermott (Panthers), Todd Bowles (Cardinals), Rob Ryan (Saints), Josh McDaniels (Patriots), Greg Roman (49ers) and George Edwards (Vikings).
