Eagles, Patriots & Seahawks Have Contacted Buccaneers About Vincent Jackson

Update:

Jason La Canfora confirms that NFL teams have called the Buccaneers about WR Vincent Jackson, but they are reportedly happy to hold onto him.

  • La Canfora mentions that the Buccaneers would likely ask for a second-round pick in return for Jackson.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson continues to generate trade interest in the days leading up to Tuesday’s deadline.

  • Interestingly enough, Rapoport mentions that the Eagles, Patriots and Seahawks are among the teams that have reached out to Tampa Bay regarding Jackson’s availability.
  • Rapoport adds that the Chiefs also have “some interest” in Jackson as well.
  • The Bucs reportedly want “real value” in return for Jackson.

It’s hard to say how interested these teams are in trading for Jackson, but there is no question that they could use some extra depth at receiver, as long as the price is reasonable. Kansas City probably could use Jackson more than other teams, but they are unlikely to part with high draft picks for another high-price receiver.

Buccaneers HC Lovie Smith recently told reporters this week that they are not looking to trade any of the players.

It’s worth mentioning that Smith said they had no plans to release CB Darrelle Revis a few months before they cut him loose, so there is at least a chance that the Buccaneers could swing a trade before Tuesday’s deadline.

With the Buccaneers really struggling across the board this year, you would have to think that they would consider parting ways with a high-paid veteran if they can secure a solid return or package of draft picks for him.

Jackson, 31, is in the third year of his  five-year, $55,555,555 contract that includes $26 million guaranteed. He’ll make base salaries of $10 million, $9,777,777, and $9,777,778 over the final three years of his contract.

So far this season, Jackson has caught 25 passes for 344 yards receiving and two touchdowns over the course of six games.

We’ll have more updates regarding potential trades as the news is available.
