Eagles Pick Up HC Doug Pederson’s Option

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the Eagles picked up an option in coach Doug Pederson’s contract following the team’s Super Bowl win a few months ago.

Pelissero says that Pederson’s original contract was a four-year deal, but by picking up the option, he now has a five-year contract and is signed through 2020 the 2020 season.

This was clearly a no-brainer move for the Eagles after he led the team to the first Super Bowl title in team history. Pederson did a remarkable job for Philadelphia and clearly deserved more job security.

Pederson, 50, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles as their offensive control coordinator in 2009. He worked his way up to QBs coach before following Andy Reid to Kansas City and becoming the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator in 2013.

The Eagles brought Pederson back as their head coach for the 2016 season.

During his two years in charge of the Eagles, Pederson has led them to a record of 20-12 (62.5 percent), which includes a one trip to the playoffs and a Super Bowl title.
