Eagles Plan To Start Nick Foles For Week 1

Ian Rapoport reports that the Eagles are planning to start Nick Foles at quarterback for the season opener against the Falcons.

Philadelphia is obviously being cautious with Carson Wentz, who is returning from an ACL tear.

Mike Garafolo says that Wentz is “close” but not close enough for them to start him in Week 1.

Foles, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. Philadelphia traded Foles to the Rams back in 2015 in a deal for QB Sam Bradford and he later signed an extension with the Rams.

Unfortunately, Foles lasted just over a year with the Rams before he was released last summer and later signed by the Chiefs. The Eagles signed Foles to a two-year, $11 million contract that includes $7 million guaranteed this past March.

Foles was set to make a base salary of $4 million in 2018 when he agreed to a restructured contract this offseason.

In 2017, Foles appeared in seven games and completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 537 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Beyond that, Foles led an impressive playoff that culminated in a Super Bowl title and him being named Super Bowl MVP.
