Eagles QB Nick Foles Suffers Shoulder Strain

The Philadelphia Eagles announced that QB Nick Foles suffered a shoulder strain during Thursday’s preseason game and is questionable to return.

Foles’ arm was hit by a Patriots’ defender while attempting a pass downfield. He was taken into the medical tent but was seen on the sideline soon after.

Based on video of the play, former NFL physician David Chao says the concern for Foles is a shoulder labrum/rotator cuff injury. Chao admits that he’s unable to determine the severity of the injury, but an issue with a throwing shoulder is an obvious concern.

Foles, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. Philadelphia traded Foles to the Rams back in 2015 in a deal for QB Sam Bradford and he later signed an extension with the Rams.

Unfortunately, Foles lasted just over a year with the Rams before he was released last summer and later signed by the Chiefs. The Eagles signed Foles to a two-year, $11 million contract that includes $7 million guaranteed this past March.

Foles was set to make a base salary of $4 million in 2018 when he agreed to a restructured contract this offseason.

In 2017, Foles appeared in seven games and completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 537 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Beyond that, Foles led an impressive playoff that culminated in a Super Bowl title and him being named Super Bowl MVP.

We’ll have more regarding Foles’ injury as the news is available.
