Eagles & QB Sam Bradford Discussing Short-Term Contract Extension

Update:

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the way for the Eagles to get a long-term deal in place with QB Sam Bradford would be to tie his potential 2016 salary, and possibly beyond to his playing time.

This would eliminate some of the concerns regarding his knee moving forward, while also ensuring that he’s compensated fairly.

The only question would be whether Bradford would even be willing to accept a deal that includes playtime incentives.

ESPN’s Ed Werder the Eagles and QB Sam Bradford have been contract discussions regarding a short-term extension.

Werder adds that the expectation right now is that the negotiations won’t result in a long-term deal. However, it’s reportedly more likely that the two sides can reach an agreement that would give the Eagles control of Bradford beyond the 2015 season.

Bradford has been taking the Eagles first-team reps in training camp and has made a “strong impression” early on.

Bradford, 27, has yet to live up to his draft status and is coming off of back-to-back ACL tears, so there are some serious concerns/question marks about him moving forward.

He has one year remaining on his six-year, $78 million contract that included $50 million guaranteed. Bradford stands to make a base salary of $12.985 million for the 2015 season to go along with a cap figure of $12.985 million.

Bradford last appeared in an NFL game during the 2013 season. He finished the year throwing for 1,687 yards while completing 60.7 percent of his passes to go along with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions over the course of seven games.

We’ll have more regarding Bradford and a new deal with the Eagles as the news is available.
