Eagles RB Bryce Brown Could Be On The Trading Block

According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Eagles RB Bryce Brown could be on the trading block this offseason.

• McLane, citing an NFL source familiar with the Eagles’ plans, reports that Chris Polk is expected to have a “more prominent role” in the team’s offense next season, which could lead to Brown being available via a trade.
• McLane adds that some around the NFL believe Brown could in fact be dealt this offseason.

Phil Sheridan of ESPN.com recently mentioned that the Eagles are expected to try to take some pressure off of RB LeSean McCoy next year, and could even explore their options in the free agent market.

Polk, an undrafted free agent out of Washington, actually looked like a better running back at times than Brown did last season.

McLane adds that some believe HC Chip Kelly actually prefers Polk’s running style over Brown’s given that he “wastes so few yards” and is viewed as a better complement to McCoy.

As for a potential market for Brown, McLane mentions that the Eagles could have a tough time moving him due to the increased 2014 salary cap.

Brown, 22, appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles last season and totaled 314 yards rushing on 75 carries (4.2 YPC) and two touchdowns.

He’s still young enough that he could develop into a decent running back in the NFL, so this could be an interesting situation to watch in the coming months.
