Eagles RB Jay Ajayi Took Out Loss-Of-Value Insurance Policy Before Suffering Torn ACL

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Eagles RB Jay Ajayi purchased a loss-of-value insurance policy this past year to protect him against an injury that could impact his free agent market.

Unfortunately, Ajayi suffered a torn ACL last week that could end up factoring into the kind of offers he’ll receive as an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

Rapoport explains that Ajayi’s policy will pay out a maximum payout $5 million after taxes, depending on the contract he signs as a free agent.

Rapoport’s adds that these policies generally can cost as much as $80,000-$100,000.

Ajayi, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.5 million contract and set to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

The Eagles acquired Ajayi in a trade with the Dolphins that sent a 2018 fourth-round pick to Miami.

Ajayi will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

In 2018, Ajayi has appeared in four games for the Eagles and rushed for 184 yards on 45 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 20 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
