Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Eagles are releasing veteran CB Leodis McKelvin on Wednesday.
The Eagles are expected to make a number of moves in the coming weeks to pick up cap space, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
McKelvin, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Bills back in 2008. After eight years in Buffalo, the Eagles signed him to a two-year, $6.2 million contract that included $3 million guaranteed last year. He was set to make a base salary of $2 million for the 2017 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing McKelvin will free up $3.2 million in available cap space while creating $250,000 in dead money.
In 2016, McKelvin appeared in 13 games for the Eagles and recorded 43 tackles, two interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown and 15 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 71 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.
