Ian Rapoport is now reporting that the Eagles are attempting to restructure and redo DE Vinny Curry‘s contract. Although, Rapoport says that this will take “a lot of work” and the Eagles would release him if they’re unable to reach an agreement.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Eagles are expected to release veteran DE Vinny Curry.

The Eagles clearly had to make some roster moves to create cap space, as they’re currently over the cap for the 2018 season. Curry was one of the most obvious sources of cap relief, but you can expect more moves from Philadelphia in the coming days.

Curry, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. He signed a five-year, $47.25 million contract that included $23 million guaranteed with the Eagles back in 2016 and was set to make base salaries of $9 million and $9.25 million over the next two years of the agreement.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $5 million of available cap space while creating $6 million in dead money. However, if they designate Curry as a post-June 1 release, they could improve these figures to $9 million of cap space and $2 million of dead money.

In 2017, Curry appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and recorded 42 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 edge rusher out of 109 qualifying players.
