Eagles Release DL Mike Patterson

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Philadelphia Eagles also released DL Mike Patterson on Monday.

This news comes hours after Schefter reported that they were cutting DL Cullen Jenkins. This move should free up close to $3 million in cap space for the Eagles.

Patterson, 29, is a former first-round pick by the Eagles. He had four years remaining on the eight-year contract worth $32.406 million that he signed back in 2006. He underwent surgery to remove the AVM from his brain last year, but was only able to play in five games this season..

The Eagles are clearly looking to get younger on the defensive side of the ball. There’s a pretty good chance that they could target an impact defensive player with their No. 4 overall pick.
