Eagles Release QB Trent Edwards

According to Eagles Insider, Philadelphia has released QB Trent Edwards right before the start of the team’s minicamp.

Edwards, 29, signed a one-year contract extension last September after he beat out Mike Kafka for third string quarterback job.

The Eagles currently have Michael Vick and Nick Foles in place as their top quarterbacks, but there’s been a lot of buzz that they could target someone in the upcoming draft. Vick is entering the final year of his contract, so it would make sense for the new regime to target a long-term option.

    • Could be an option. We’ll have to see if a market develops for him. Surprisingly, guys like Calib Hanie and Seneca Wallace are being signed to contracts, so it makes sense that Edwards would generate some interest at this point in the offseason.

  1. Good to see him released with time to find another team. We are now in the phase where Kelly is choosing players who fit or not, his plan. There will be more, right up to the draft. Doesn’t mean the player is not good enough for NFL, simply means a bad fit foe Eagles. I wish Edwards luck.
