Eagles Release G Todd Herremans

Update:

The Eagles made it official on Friday, and announced the release of veteran G Todd Herremans.

Todd has been the ultimate professional during my two years in Philadelphia with him,” said head coach Chip Kelly. “He is a tough player and I wish him all of the best as he moves forward in his NFL career. I spoke to him earlier today and one of the things I told him was that by releasing him now, he will have a full opportunity to explore all of his options around the league.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that the Eagles are releasing G Todd Herremans on Thursday.

Unfortunately for Herremans, his 2014 season was cut short after he sustained a torn biceps that required season-ending surgery and led to him being placed on injured reserve.

Herremans, 32, still has two years remaining on his five-year, $27.1 million contract that included $11 million guaranteed. He had base salaries of $4 million in 2015 and 2016.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Herremans will free up $2.8 million in available cap space while creating $2.4 million in dead money.

In 2014, Herremans was limited to playing in just eight games. Pro Football Focus has Herremans down for playing 525 snaps last year, but he’s rated as the No. 57 guard in the league out of 78 qualifying players. His poor rating comes from troubles in pass protection.
