Eagles Rookie QB Carson Wentz Suffered Hairline Rib Fracture

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Saturday that No. 2 overall pick QB Carson Wentz suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs during Friday’s game against the Buccaneers.

The Eagles are hoping to have Wentz back before the end of the preseason.

Here’s a statement from HC Doug Pederson:

“Carson felt some discomfort and soreness as we began this morning’s practice. We decided to limit him throughout the remainder of practice and, as a precaution, sent him for a CT scan after practice. The scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs. We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason.”

Wentz was sacked four times during the game and took some pretty hard hits. However, it’s at least a positive that he could be back before the end of the preseason.

Wentz, 23, was taken with the No. 2 overall pick by the Eagles after they gave up a huge package of picks to trade up from No. 8 overall.

According to OverTheCap.com, Wentz receives a four-year contract worth $26,676,338 to go along with a signing bonus of $17,600,972. The contract will include a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2019.

During the Eagles’ preseason opener, Wentz completed 12-of-24 passes for 89 yards and an interception against the Bucs.
