Eagles S Walter Thurmond Unlikely To Be Back In Philly?

Eagles S Walter Thurmond explained that based on the Eagles’ cap situation, it’s unlikely that he’ll be back in Philadelphia next year.

They only have $17 million in cap space,” Thurmond said of the Eagles, via the Delco Times. “Economically it doesn’t make sense for them. I would love to be here. I love playing here. But that’s the way it is.

For what it’s worth, OverTheCap.com has the Eagles projected to have $24.5 million in cap space to work with.

Thurmond, 28, signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract that included a $2 million signing bonus and an additional $750,000 in incentives. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months and it sounds like he’ll be testing the open market.

In 2015, Thurmond appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and recorded 71 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles with one being returned for a touchdown, three interceptions, seven pass defenses and a safety. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
