Report: Michael Johnson To The Eagles “Isn’t Happening”

Update:

According to Tim McManus, Bengals free agent DE Michael Johnson is not signing with the Eagles.

  • McManus adds negotiations are already getting “heavy” regarding Johnson and the Eagles are not among the teams currently involved in discussions for the defensive end.

Johnson, 27, appeared in 15 games for the Bengals last year and totaled 56 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 4 defensive end in a 4-3 scheme.

We have Johnson listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

According to Tim McManus of Birds 24/7, the Philadelphia Eagles are showing “some” interest in Bengals free agent DE Michael Johnson.

  • McManus mentions that Johnson fits the “big people” mold that HC Chip Kelly prefers.
  • However, McManus adds that Johnson’s price tag could ultimately prove to be too high for the Eagles, especially if cap rich teams like the Vikings, Raiders or Jaguars get involved.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, mentioned earlier in the day that the Vikings will have Johnson as their “top target” if he reaches the open market next week.

Johnson would have to make the transition to outside linebacker if the Eagles were to sign him, but he should be able to do so based on the athleticism he has displayed while in Cincinnati.
