Eagles Sign TE Zach Ertz To A Five-Year, $42.5M Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Monday that they’ve signed TE Zach Ertz to a five-year contract extension.

  • Joel Corry reports that Ertz receives a five-year, $42.5 million contract with $20 million in guaranteed.
  • According to Corry, $13,138,527 of Ertz’s $20 million is fully guaranteed at signing.

This contract will keep Ertz under team control though the 2021 season and make him the fourth highest paid tight end based on average salary and guaranteed money.

Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com recently reported that the Eagles were trying to re-sign a number of players to contract extensions including Ertz, OL Lane Johnson, and DE Vinny Curryso it was clear that this was among their offseason priorities.

Ertz, 25, was selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $5,379,198 rookie contract and is in line to make a base salary of $1,138,527 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Ertz appeared in 15 games and caught 75 passes for 853 yards receiving and two touchdowns for the Eagles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 tight end out of 73 qualifying players.
