Eagles Signing K Jake Elliott Off Bengals’ Practice Squad, Placing K Caleb Sturgis On IR

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Eagles are signing K Jake Elliott off of the Bengals’ practice squad on Tuesday and placing K Caleb Sturgis on injured reserve.

Although, Rapoport adds that Sturgis is a candidate to be brought back from injured reserve last on in the year.

Sturgis suffered hip flexor injury on opening kick Sunday and now expected to be out four weeks.

Elliott, 22, was taken in the fifth-round of this year’s NFL draft by the Bengals. He signed a four-year, $2.677 million contract, but was, unfortunately, cut loose coming out of the preseason and later signed to the team’s practice squad.

During his college career at Memphis, Elliott converted 81 of 104 field goal attempts (77.9 percent) to go along with all 202 extra point tries for a total of 445 points.

Sturgis, 28, is a former fifth round pick of the Dolphins back in 2013. He spent two years in Miami before he was among their final roster cuts at the start of the 2015 season.

The Eagles signed him to a contract a few weeks later and he received a one-year extension last season.

This season, Sturgis has appeared in one game and converted all three of his field goal attempts including one over 50 yards, but has made just one of two extra point tries.
