Eagles Still Exploring Trades For A Receiver Including 49ers Torrey Smith

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing multiple sources, reports that the Eagles are still focused on a potential trade for a receiver and talks with the 49ers regarding a deal involving veteran WR Torrey Smith aren’t dead.

Florio adds that it remains unclear if the Eagles are targeting other receivers and it remains to be seen who else could be on the trading block for them to consider.

Jason La Canfora previously mentioned that the Eagles could end up trading for an outside receiver in the days leading up to the deadline with Smith being a “prime target.”

La Canfora mentions that Eagles executive Howie Roseman has shown a willingness to pursue trades and they could really use an outside receiver for rookie QB Carson Wentz to target.

Eagles executive Joe Douglas was with the Ravens when they drafted Smith, which explains why they might be willing to swing a deal for him, despite the money he’s owed and his performance in recent years.

There has been some speculation that Bears franchise WR Alshon Jeffery could also be an option but there are some major obstacles in the way of a trade involving him.

Smith, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. He’s currently in the second year of his five-year, $40 million contract that includes $22 million guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Smith has appeared in seven games for the 49ers and caught 13 passes for 199 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 107 receiver out of 108 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a potential trade involving the Eagles as the news is available.
