Eagles Trade RB Felix Jones For Steelers LB Adrian Robinson

Adam Caplan reports that the Eagles have traded RB Felix Jones to the Steelers in return for LB Adrian Robinson.

Jones, 26, signed a one-year contract with the Eagles in May with the hope that he would be a solid option as the No. 3 running back in HC Chip Kelly’s fast paced offense. Jones put together an underwhelming training camp and there has been speculation for awhile now that he was on the chopping block. The Eagles did well to get anything in return for a guy who almost certainly would have been released.

As for Robinson, he’s a former undrafted free agent who appeared in 12 games for the Steelers last season. He’s a bit of an under-sized player, but he may be able to provide some pass-rush from the linebacker spot.

The Steelers obviously felt it was necessary to find help another running back after rookie RB Le’Veon Bell went down with mid-foot sprain. Pittsburgh is likely to start one Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer while Bell is out. Jones will likely have to compete with LaRod Stephens-Howling for third-down reps, but it could be too late into training camp for Jones to secure any amount of playing time in the early part of the season.
