Eagles Will Start Michael Vick In Preseason Opener, Nick Foles Starts Week 2

Eagles HC Chip Kelly announced that Michael Vick will start Friday’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots.

  • Nick Foles will alternate with the first-team offense and also start the Eagles second preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.
  • Rookie QB Matt Barkley is expected to see time with the second and third-team units on Friday.

It appears as though Kelly still wants to give Foles a shot at beating out Vick for the starting job, but there has been a good amount of buzz that Vick is likely to win the job outright.

Jay Glazer mentioned Thursday night that “it doesn’t seem like there’s any question at all” Vick will be the Eagles starter.

Philadelphia re-signed Vick to a one-year contract worth $7.5 million, which included a $3.5 million signing bonus, so if he was unable to beat out Foles there would be at some question as to whether or not he could be on the chopping block.

Vick, 33, will be an unrestricted free agent following the season, so he has every incentive to put together a great 2013 season in hope of securing a multi-year contract at some point.
