Eagles Worked Out 3 Players Including QB Matt Simms & TE Gabe Holmes

The Philadelphia Eagles worked out three players on Monday including TE Gabe Holmes, TE Jevoni Robinson, and QB Matt Simms, according to Howard Balzer.

Simms, 28, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted out of Tennessee back in 2012. He spent just over three years with the Jets before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Bills.

However, Simms was unfortunately among their final roster cuts at the start of the 2015 season. Simms later signed on to the Falcons’ practice squad and returned to Atlanta on a futures deal before he was waived last September.

The Falcons did, however, re-sign him to their practice squad. Simms returned to the Falcons this past May but was waived with an injury designation and was later placed on injured reserve.Atlanta waived Simms with an injury settlement before the start of the season.

In 2014, Simms was signed to the team’s practice squad and wound up appearing in one game, completing 3-of-8 pass attempts for 39 yards.

Holmes, 26, wound up signing on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue back in May of 2015. He managed to make the 53-man roster coming out of preseason, but was cut loose just a few weeks later.

The Raiders later signed him to their practice squad after he cleared waivers and elected to bring Holmes back on a one-year, exclusive rights contract this past April. Unfortunately, Oakland waived him coming out of the preseason and he later signed on to the Seahawks’ practice squad.

Seattle elected to release him a few weeks ago and he later signed on to the Ravens’ practice squad.

Holmes has yet to appear in an NFL game.
