Eagles Trying Out Kickers Nick Novak, Caleb Sturgis, & Billy Cundiff

Update:

Ian Rapoport is now reporting that the Eagles are bringing in free agent kickers Caleb Sturgis, Nick Novak and Billy Cundiff for tryouts Monday.

  • Albert Breer adds that Kai Forbath, Shayne Graham and Carey Spear also in Philly for a tryout today.

Cundiff, 35, originally signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Drake back in 2005. Since then Cundiff has played for several teams including the Buccaneers, Packers, Saints, Falcons, Chiefs, Lions, Ravens, Redskins, 49ers, Jets and most recently for the Browns.

In 2014, Cundiff converted 22 of 29 field goal attempts this season, but was just one of three from 50 yards or more.

Sturgis, 26, is a former fifth round pick of the Dolphins back in 2013. He spent two years in Miami before he was among their final roster cuts this past weekend, as they got down to 53 players.

In 2014, Sturgis converted 29 of 37 field goal attempts (78.4 percent) to go along with 37 touchbacks and 41 out of 41 extra point tries. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 21 kicker out of 57 qualifying players.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports Monday morning that Eagles K Cody Parkey aggravated his groin injury during the team’s Week 3 win over the Jets.

Because of this, Philadelphia is reportedly hosting free agent kickers for workouts Monday. Ian Rapoport reports that former Chargers K Nick Novak will be among the players trying out for the Eagles.

Parkey, 23, is in the second year of his three-year, $1.53 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $510,000 and $600,000 over the next two years.

Over the course of three games, Parkey has converted 75 percent of his field goal attempts and all seven extra point tries for the Eagles.

Novak, 34, was a somewhat surprising cut from the Chargers this past weekend, as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players.

In 2014, Novak converted 22-of-26 field goal attempts, which includes three of four attempts from over 50 yards. He also had 10 touchbacks and didn’t miss an extra point try. It’s worth mentioning that Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 71 kicker out of 72 qualifying players.
