Eli Manning Could Be Be Back With Giants In 2019

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Giants QB Eli Manning is “playing his way on the roster in 2019.

Sources have told Rapoport that while no decision has been at this point, there are scenarios being discussed that include him returning for the final year of his contract and the team drafting his successor.

A few weeks ago, Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reported that there’s still a chance that Manning could return to the Giants in 2019, possibly even as their starter.

A team source told Vacchiano that a decision regarding Manning’s has “absolutely not” been made and management is open to the idea of another year with Manning.

Vacchiano’s source explained that the biggest reason why Manning could return next year is: “Who’s going to replace him?

Manning has one year remaining on his contract and stands to make a base salary of $11.5 million to go along with a $5 million roster bonus due in March. He’ll carry a cap figure of $23 million, which is pretty high for the kind of play they got from him this season.

As of now, the Giants have fourth-round pick Kyle Lauletta and they’re hoping to get a look at him before the end of the season. The Giants are also in position to have a top-five pick next year and there has been a lot of speculation about them being a possible landing spot for Oregon QB Justin Herbert.

Although, there’s still plenty to be sorted out in terms of who will be available in next year’s draft and where the Giants will be selecting.

According to Vacchiano, those who know Manning best don’t think he’ll consider retiring next year if the Giants are willing to commit to him being their starter.

The idea of playing for the Jaguars has come up in recent years, given Manning’s ties to Tom Coughlin. However, Vacchiano says that most people believe Manning doesn’t want to leave the Giants or the New York area under any circumstances.

Manning, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2004. He was traded to the Giants during the draft and has spent all 14 years of his career in New York.

Manning is in the fourth year of his five-year, $101.5 million contract that included $65 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $10.5 million and $11.5 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Manning has appeared in 13 games for the Giants and thrown for 3,460 yards while completing 67.7 percent of his passes to go along with 18 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding Manning’s future with the Giants as the news is available.

  1. It’s now Monday and I just finished reading the sports sections of the local ragloids. Anyone read Paul Schwartz NY Report Card Grades? Schwartz gave the GMEN defense a C-. REALLY! Other then the Mauro face mask penalty that eventually led to a Henry TD, the GMEN held Mariota to 88 passing yds and ZERO TDS. The GMEN deserved a B+ for their effort. Considering they were constantly out there for the entire game. Schwartz got the offensive grade wrong as well, he gave the so called offense an F. REALLY! Did you watch the same game everyone else watched? That was a FFF performance to say the least. And now to the most comical grade of all. Schwartz gave the COACHING A big fat C. REALLY! A big fat C?! Putz Shurmur DID NOT have any offensive game plan on Sunday. PERIOD! Manning and his patented incompetence combined with Barkley’s lack of all around game. The only bright spot was my man Evan Engram.
Does anyone REALLY BELIEVE this guy Putz Shurmur is a real offensive guru and francise savior? With the exception of the ‘Skins game, Putz Shurmur’s offense is garbage. Look at his two profited in Minnesota DeFilippo and Stefanski. DeFilippo was FIRED last week. Stefanski got lucky yesterday against a scrub ‘Phins squad. And Stefanski’s Viking contract expires at the end of this season. And odds are Stefanski will not be resigned. So! Coaching apples don’t fall far from coaching trees. What does that say for the future of the GMEN. You give Belichick this same squad and the GMEN are in the playoffs, without any doubt. Look at the Pats’ squad Belichick has this year. He has a so called Viking first round bust playing everywhere on the offense and special teams and he is thriving. You remember Cordarelle Patterson? Putz Shurmur was his OC in Minnesota. Then Belichick trades for a WR with alcohol abuse issues and he becomes a very productive favorite target for Brady. You remember Josh Gordon? Yet! The GMEN have the legend in his own mind Elisha Manning at QB, the self proclaimed greatest WR in OBJ and let us not forget the anointed one, the man “touched by the hand of g*d” Saquon Barkley. Combine them with the offensive genius and whispering ways of Putz Shurmur and look at the results. What a joke!

  2. Did anyone watch Putz Shurmur’s post game speech after last week’s game versus the ‘Skins? Putz stated, “Ain’t it great to win? And we could play with anybody in the NFL. As long as WE COACH and PLAY the RIGHT WAY.” REALLY! COACH THE RIGHT WAY! News Flash! Putz Shurmur! That’s the reason you were brought in to the organization. Because you are a so called offensive guru and QB whisperer. You were supposed to bring in the RIGHT COACHES to COACH the players the RIGHT way. And I for one along with countless other GMEN FANS don’t see it. Putz Shurmur has poor game management on a weekly basis. It seems as if Putz Shurmur and his OC and DC never communicate on the game plans for each game. Nor does Shurmur ever communicate with Shula and Bettcher during games either. Did you see today’s game? Where Shurmur wasted two challenges back to back in the first half, on irrelevant plays. And a challenge could have been used on a 2nd half GMEN punt that really looked like it touched a Titan player, which would have given the GMEN possession in great field position.
Putz Shurmur is NOT the answer as HC of the GMEN. And that is a FACT. And Gettleman and Mara better realize it soon. Because! Mike McCarthy will not be available for long.
As for Elisha Manning’s tenure with the team. Manning is and has become more tiring and annoying to watch each game. Manning looks lost every week from the opening quarter to the end of every game. According to Putz Shurmur this very spring, this offense is a SIMPLIFIED VERSION of the offense McAdope installed 3 or 4 years ago. Why can’t Manning operate it correctly? Easy answer. Manning is not that intelligent with the offensive Xs and Os. Early in ’07 season there were rumors that Manning and Coughlin would be on their way out the door. The same scenario reared its head in early ’11. And now the Media states that Elisha Manning may be starting in 2019. Well! I have been saying that very statement all along. Mara, Reese and McAdope were planning to move on from Manning last year. And some FANS started clamoring about giving Manning a due farewell. Now the same clamorers want change at QB. The Maras, Gettleman and Shurmur are going to throw Manning out there on Sundays for not only 2019, but 2020 and possibly 2021. Because Manning will most likely get a new 2 year deal with a 3rd yr. option to lessen the cap hit for 2019. BELIEVE IT! That coupled with the fact that the Jaguars will most likely be drafting ahead of the GMEN. And Coughlin will most definitely take Justin Herbert. BELIEVE IT! So! My guess is that the GMEN 2019 draft will be based around defensive draft picks. Leaving the offense to sputter under Manning for the forseeable future, until Manning finally retires! Which I cannot wait for! Just think of what could have been if the GMEN just kept Philip Rivers!
P.S. Watch for blow out losses versus the Colts and Cowpokes to finish the 2018 season. Then the blame game begins.
